Obituary for Betty Sanders (Parker)

Betty Lavon Sanders, age 99 and a resident of Warsaw, passed away quietly at 11:50 p.m. in Paddock Springs Senior Living Center on Friday, July 19, 2019.

Betty was born on December 5, 1919 in Silver Lake. She was the daughter of Joseph S. Parker and Bertha B. (Metzger) Parker – both of whom preceded her in passing. The only girl of four children, Betty was raised in the family home with her brothers, Rex, Karl and Jay Parker.

On July 12, 1941, Betty was united in marriage to Frank Sanders, Jr. The pair moved to Warsaw in 1946. They also lived in Hammond for 15 years before making their home in Claypool. They enjoyed spending winters in Florida in the 80s and 90s and retired to Warsaw in the early 2000s. On January 4, 2008, Frank preceded Betty in passing.

Professionally, Betty had been a teacher and a home maker. She worked in several towns, having taught locally at both Jefferson and Washington Schools. She was a member of P.E.O. (a Women’s philanthropic organization), Kosciusko County Retired Teachers, Happy Homemaker’s Club and Linden Reading Club. She was also a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, having attended there for more than fifty years. Betty’s family was most important to her; and she was sure they knew it, relaying the message to them many times.

Betty was especially fond of time spent with her grandchildren who cherish memories of trips to Florida and time spent on the farm simply having fun. Betty also loved to play games of all kinds. She had a smile and kind word for all who knew her and possessed a great strength even in difficult times though she generally had a playful spirit.

Betty will be remembered by her beloved family and many friends including daughter, Sandra (Roger) Kunce of Cromwell; son, Tom (Joanne) Sanders of Columbus, IN and six grandchildren: Colleen (Jef) Bafford, Joe Sanders, Bridget Sanders, Steve (Meredith) Sanders, Gretchen (Josh) Bailey and Gwen (Nathan) Fuller and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and her parents, Betty was preceded in passing by her brothers and a son, Stephen Sanders.

Friends may join the family for a time of visitation at Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 East Center Street, Warsaw, on Wednesday, July 24th from 11 to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake. Pastor Ernie Troxell will officiate. Her Life Celebration is entrusted to Titus Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left at www.TitusFuneralHome.com
