Obituary

George Louis Robertson passed away, surrounded by devoted family and friends, on February 23, 2019, at 4:10 a.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana, after a determined and courageous fight against cancer. He was 71 years old, having lived a life of exemplary and dedicated service to others, including in Warsaw, Indiana, where he recently served as President of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation for over eight years, and Schenectady, New York, where he served as the President of the Schenectady Economic Development Corporation for 20 years.

George began his economic development career in his home state of South Dakota, where he served as the Director of Economic Development for the Governor of South Dakota. George also previously served communities in Charles County, Maryland, and in central Louisiana. In each of these communities, he gave selflessly to helping others.

George met his wife, Priya (Kasmatie), on an economic development trip to Guyana, South America where they later adopted their son, Joel. George was a national speaker on future trends in economic development. He taught courses in economic and small business development and entrepreneurship across the country.

One of George’s lifelong passions was the Scouts. As an Eagle Scout, he continued to play an active role in the organization. After arriving at Kosciusko County, Indiana, he became a Cub and Boy Scouts leader. George helped develop the first successful Scouting pack in the Claypool/Silver Lake area. His youngest son, Joel, is active in the Boy Scouts and frequently helped his father with Scouting events and trips. Even during his battle against cancer, George continued to dedicate much of his free time to the Scouts.

George is revered by family, friends, colleagues, and others in his life. George is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Priya (Kasmatie); their son, Joel; his oldest son, Clayton; his daughters, Ashley Robertson and Alex Robertson; his sister, Linda Phillips (Gary); and his mother-in-law, Joycelyn Singh (and family). George was also blessed with the nurturing devotion of the family’s two dogs, Sal and Sallymae. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Howard and Louise Robertson, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

George will be fondly remembered by all of those whose lives he has positively touched over the years. We will miss him. We love him. He was our hero and inspiration. A celebration of George’s life, coordinated by Titus Funeral Home, will be held on Saturday, April 13th at Grace College’s Westminster Hall. A service celebrating George's life will begin at 2 p.m. with memorial gathering will be from 3 to 4 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Boy Scouts of American, Pack #3770. Condolences may be left at www.TitusFuneralHome.com.
