Obituary for Ted Upson

Ted Wayne Upson passed away unexpectedly in his Warsaw home on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 2:40 p.m. Age 83 at the time of his death, he was a longtime Warsaw resident.

Ted was born in Fort Wayne on February 29, 1936. He was the only son of Edwin and Eloise (Shenefield) Upson and graduated from Washington Center High School in Whitley County. Following graduation, Ted enlisted in the United States Army. His service to our country began on December 17, 1954 in Indianapolis and he was honorably discharged from Fort Sheridan, Illinois on November 20, 1957.

Ted was a hard worker. He worked for many years at Schrader Automotive (now Hoffman Brothers Auto Parts) in their store front. Even in his retirement, he continued to work part-time, delivering parts for the company he devoted so many years to. More personally, he enjoyed travelling and camping with his wife in their RV; the pair had wintered in Victoria, Texas for many years. He also enjoyed old TV shows like Hee Haw and was a fan of both NASCAR and Dallas Cowboys football.

Ted was married to Mary Ann (Stroup) Hutcherson on July 29, 1991 – she survives at home. Also surviving are two children and four stepchildren: Ronald Upson of Warsaw, Rhonda Coburn of Syracuse, Jeffery (Tranae Crawford) Hutcherson of Warsaw, Carla Lewis of Claypool, Robert (Dawn) Hutcherson of Bridgman, MI, and Blaine Hutcherson of Claypool. Twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive. His parents, Edwin and Eloise Upson, preceded him in passing.

Ted was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood. He was very active there and helped on several committees during his membership. A memorial service will be held there at a later date. Visitation will be held at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the donor’s choice of the following: Titus Funeral Home to assist with final expenses or Otterbein United Methodist Church, 306 East Main Street, Atwood, IN 46502.
